Peace-Friendly Cities

Municipalities committed to a culture of Peace.

About

The Cities for Peace Program is a strategic initiative of CIEPI that mobilizes and recognizes municipalities committed to institutionalizing a Culture of Peace.

The program aims to transform urban territories into safer, more resilient, inclusive and harmonious environments, through the implementation of integrated public policies and the promotion of collaborative governance. It acts as a network of municipalities that share good practices and learn together to build positive peace from their local reality.

Purpose of the Program:

These peace-friendly cities strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for all citizens, regardless of their origin, religion, gender or sexual orientation. By joining the Cities for Peace network, municipalities commit to working together to create a more peaceful and sustainable world.

Objectives

  • Establishes partnerships between government, civil society, the private sector and international organizations for integrated planning.
  • Acts at the root of conflict and violence, developing proactive rather than merely reactive policies.
  • Introduces and strengthens education for peace and non-violence as a fundamental pillar in the curriculum of municipal school networks.
  • Develops continuous, long-term actions, integrated into Municipal Development Plans, to ensure a lasting impact.
